Code of Practice - Parents/guardians
Parents/guardians agree to:
- help their children know and follow the safest route and use safe crossing places
- if unaccompanied between home and the pick-up point.
- remind children that playing about at pick-up points or on buses can cause accidents and injuries and teach children how to behave in a safe manner. For example, by:
- waiting for the bus to pull away before crossing the road (not crossing immediately in front of or behind the bus);
- never opening any door on the bus except in an emergency;
- never throwing anything out of the bus window;
- not distracting the driver by fighting or shouting on the bus.
- make sure children have their fare and a valid boarding pass to show the bus driver.
- ensure children know what to do if the bus is late or does not arrive.
- teach children the financial consequences of vandalism on the bus. Payment to the bus company for any damage caused by a child will be the parent's/guardian's responsibility.
- remember that unruly or dangerous behaviour on the bus will not be tolerated nor will foul language, spitting, or any abuse towards the bus driver or other students. Any child who misbehaves may be excluded from the school bus.
- ask children about their bus journey and contact the school or operator if children report any dangerous or unruly behaviour occurring on the bus.
- support appropriate action taken by the school or the bus company to deal with bad behaviour.
